Hypnotherapy – Hypnotherapist in Cape Town
Hypnotherapy is a state of therapeutically induced relaxed focus, whereby one’s mind becomes more susceptible and receptive to new, more positive ideas. Scientifically, hypnosis occurs in an alpha or theta brain wave state, as opposed to the faster beta wave, which is the normal conscious state of attention. Hypnosis is in fact a natural state of mind which we all experience throughout the day. Daydreaming, focusing on your favourite television programme and the moments as one is waking up or just before one falls asleep are all forms of hypnosis.
Hypnosis, used as a form of therapy, called Hypnotherapy, combines the benefits of hypnosis with conventional forms of therapy, producing a winning self-enhancement formula. Hypnotherapists have been trained to induce this state of consciousness through the use of relaxation and suggestion exercises. You have become suggestible, for example, when you think of eating a lemon and your mouth feels sour. In other words, if you can vividly imagine yourself experiencing something, with all the sights, sounds, feelings, smells and tastes associated; and react towards it as though it were real, you would be doing autogenic training, or what is otherwise known as, self-hypnosis. In fact, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. The therapist merely aims to facilitate the client in this process.
Hypnotherapy can help to improve or overcome negative thoughts, emotions and behaviours, or to imprint beneficial images and positive ideas about oneself and one’s future. When one activates the subconscious mind through imagery and suggestion, one is able to create greater changes in one’s beliefs, feelings, body and reality, than at the conscious intellectual level. This is because the content of the subconscious mind acts as a script which plays out in one’s life regardless of conscious intention.
THE PROCESS
Working at your pace and with what is most comfortable for you, we will progressively explore the problem area and navigate our way to finding positive outcomes. There are no prerequisites apart from a willingness to use your mind creatively and to fully participate in the process. The first part of the session is used to discuss your problems and goals. Together, we will then work on how hypnotherapy can best help you.
After fully discussing your problem area, I will lead you gently into a state of relaxation by means of visualization and other suggestion techniques. Once you have responded sufficiently enough to all suggestions, we will then begin the work. Based on our formulated goals and treatment, I will either start offering you positive suggestions towards your current situation or future; or start exploring certain thought-feeling patterns which require understanding and transformation.
