HOW TO DO SELF-HYPNOSIS

Find a time and place where you won’t be disturbed. Put on some relaxing music or sounds to help you to get into a relaxed state. Sitting is preferable, as lying down sometimes results in sleep. Remember that hypnosis requires strong concentration!

Close your eyes and start breathing slowly. Watch your breath moving in and out. Then tell your body to relax – starting with the feet, and moving up to the ankles, calves, thighs, hips, tummy, chest, arms, neck, face and head. Use words like “relax” and “let go” and “this part is getting heavier and heavier”. Be creative.

Then, still with your eyes closed, count down from 10 – 1. Count slowly and with each number down, tell your body to relax. Tell yourself that you are going deeper and deeper into the subconscious mind and that your body is feeling heavier and more relaxed.

Once you have finished counting down, then it’s time to begin with hypnotic suggestions. These suggestions are affirmations which encourage the visualization of what it is you are wanting within yourself or in your life.

Depending on your specific problem, affirmations could include:

– I am healthy and fully of energy

– I am a non-smoker and only breath fresh air

– I am confident and believe in myself

– I am motivated and use my time wisely

– I only eat healthy, nutritious food

Whatever your goal is, visualize it and feel it as though it had already happened in your life. Give yourself the permission to be creative and playful. Just like a child “pretends” to be a princess, or a race car driver, or a pilot; “pretend” by feeling all the feelings and seeing all the images in your mind.

If you struggle with this, ask yourself questions, like:

– what does it look like, now that I have achieved what I want?

– what does it feel like? Is there anybody that I know that has this quality or lives this type of life? What would it feel like to be them?

– Are there any sounds, smells or tastes involved?

– What would be different in my life once my goal has been achieved? Look at things like your relationships, your self-confidence, your career, your health etc.

– How would I think and behave differently?

Once you are finished, either count yourself back up from 1 – 10, or just tell yourself to come back to normal consciousness again.

A self-hypnosis session should be at least 10 minutes, although there is no right nor wrong time period. It all depends on the power and passion you put into it and on how regularly you do this. The subconscious mind requires repetition in order to accept a new way of thinking, feeling and behaving. Consequently, self-hypnosis should be done on a daily basis.
